Houston, We No Longer Have a Problem…but Isiah does

As I predicted ever-so-boldy (Ok, fine…I just agreed with the rest of the world and Isiah…by the way, have you tried spelling “Isiah?” It just doesn’t feel right) last week, HOU II has come to an end.
BOO
HOU
I’m deeply saddened by this astonishing, remarkable and frankly earth-shattering announcement. Oh I’m sorry, I’m actually lying: I’m completely, utterly and entirely NOT surprised because any half-knowedgeable basketball fan knew this ultimately wouldn’t work out…I mean, come on…the Knicks have a championship to worry about. Wow, how incredibly far-fetched does that sound?

Anyway, there are two lines of thinking as to why Allan came back when he did and why he called it quits when he did.

1). He simply realized - 3 weeks after training camp began - that he was “ready.” He then realized - after one week, 6 minutes of on-the-court play and having taken (and missed) two shots - that he in fact is not “ready.”

2). After Isiah, Jimmy Dolan and the rest of the little girls who allegedly run this show were found guilty of, of….well, you all know what they were found guilty of…they lured Houston into attempting a comeback to deflect the attention away from the Garden and it’s legal/moral woes and onto the possibility of a comeback by one of the Knicks’ all-time greats (as I wrote that I realized that I too had bought in; Allan Houston was, at best, a very good basketball player and by Knicks standards, he was just average).

As you might expect, I’m going to go with option #2. Why? Well for one, how much fun is it to bash this franchise in it’s current state? But in all seriousness, this is what any educated fan has come to expect from this regime: lies, poor decisions and lies to cover-up said decisions. Why should this be any different?

As Allan Houston ventures off into (another…possible) retirement, the Knicks get set to take on their alleged “toughest competition” this season in the East: the Boston Celtics. Yes, that same bunch that beat us by 40 (40!!!) last week. Here’s the problem: for the C’s to be our “toughest competition,” we actually have to compete, thus making the game competitive, subsequently rendering the Celtics our “competition.” As of now, we serve as their practice squad.

And speaking of practice squads, for the first time this season Isiah Thomas will not be facing the Garden’s practice squad-fans tonight. In the team’s only other home game against Macaabi Tel Aviv (sp.? Don’t fee like checking. Someone tell me if that’s wrong), the crowd was heavily pro-Macaabi. Tonight, however, actual Knicks fans (seven of them) and actual season ticket holders (three of them, not including Spike Lee and the bald, heavy-set dude whose been sitting under the basket by the Knicks bench for 37-years, Fred Something, I think) will populate the arena and you should expect the boo-birds to be out in full-force for Coach Curse-A-Lot when they announce his name…and perhaps all night long.

And to that, I simply say: BRING BACK OAK!!!!!!!
Oh yeah, Isiah: you’re getting what you deserve pal. Who’s the “bi**h” now?
